Potential impact of Matter 1.0 on the smart home apps and IoT market
I am writing to inquire about the possibility of research cooperation in the field of new IoT system implementation. I am a researcher at The Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, and I have been working on various aspects of power grid digitization for the past ten years.
I would like to propose, as a potential Seed Found project, a joint research programme on the possibility of implementing the Matter 1.0 protocol in selected countries that aims to explore the benefits and challenges of adopting a unified standard for smart
home devices.
The Matter 1.0 protocol, released by the Connectivity Standards Alliance on October 4, 2022, promises to make smart devices work with each other regardless of which company manufactures them and to ensure that communications with smart devices
are secure and local. In my intentions, the joint research programme will involve testing Matter-compatible devices from different brands and platforms in various scenarios and environments and evaluating their performance, interoperability, (cyber)security, and
user experience. The research programme will also analyse the potential impact of Matter 1.0 on the smart home apps and IoT market, consumer behaviour, and energy efficiency. The research programme will use the information from the official website of Matter 1.0 https://csa-iot.org/all-solutions/matter/.
I believe that there is great potential for collaboration between our UNITE! research groups, which share similar goals and challenges.
