Lightning Mapping Array
The Lightning Mapping Array is primarily designed to support everything related to the detection, measurement, and analysis of lightning. The infrastructure includes fixed and mobile sensors that enable the detection and analysis of thunderstorms in 3D. The fixed sensors cover all of Catalonia, while the mobile ones allow for field campaigns anywhere. There are also high-speed cameras that can be used for various types of studies, as well as a high-performance drone that can be equipped with specific instrumentation.
Additionally, they have an interferometer that enables observations similar to those of the LMA, but with a shorter range and higher resolution. This equipment is also portable and can be used in measurement campaigns anywhere.
The aim of this facility is to support everything related to the detection, measurement, and analysis of lightning.
