The EPSEB Materials Laboratory offers various services in relation to the study, determination, diagnosis or characterization of materials and construction systems.
For instance, we assess the structural behavior of traditional construction systems such as load-bearing brick and masonry walls, or porticoed structures made of concrete and reinforced concrete. We also develop methodologies of diagnosis and tests for unidirectional slabs; we undertake studies of hygrothermal problems and their causes; characterization of concretes and their pathologies; or problems of deterioration and even collapse of timber elements.
When the damage to buildings is difficult to determine and the cases are so complex that the experts’ experience is not enough, we may be asked for reports and opinions from which legal proceedings are derived, which means rigor and quality are basic requirements in the tasks we carry out.
These kinds of tasks also form the basis for establishing specific research lines that, using specific cases, enable the development of diagnosis tools that can be applied to new projects. In some cases, these are sufficiently innovative to publish a technical or scientific article, which will be used by professionals in their work.
