The University of Turin and the Polytechnic of Turin have joined forces to create a federated competence centre on High-Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data Analytics (BDA), able to collaborate with SMEs of the territory and contribute to improve their ability to innovate on data-based technologies and applications.
HPC4AI was co-financed by the Piedmont Region through the POR-FESR 2014-2020 with 4.5 million euros and will be in service in 2019.
The HPC4AI project aims to catalyse the skills already present in the two main Turin universities in Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, HPC and Big Data Analytics.
The centre is based on four existing laboratories in the two universities and extends them with high-performance computer systems, which have been explicitly designed to be easily usable by local companies. The main objective is, in fact, to serve as a lever of competitive technological advantage for Piedmontese SMEs through the ability to create innovation by transforming research into products and services.
