Description

MicroLab is the Electronic Microscopy Laboratory of Instituto Superior Técnico, a unit specialized in providing services and support to the scientific community in the characterisation of materials through scanning and transmission electron microscopy techniques.

It is the only laboratory in southern Portugal equipped with a high-resolution scanning electron microscope (Field Emission Gun Scanning Electron Microscope-FEG-SEM) with elemental chemical analysis (Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy EDS), electron diffraction (Electron Backscattered Diffraction-EBSD) and a transmission electron microscope (Transmission Electron Microscope-TEM) also with EDS analysis and electron diffraction.

MicroLab is a reference laboratory in electron microscopy analysis both in the area of materials sciences and also in the life sciences, with the capacity to develop and support a wide range of scientific and technological activities. This laboratory has been on the Mapping of the European Research Infrastructure Landscape (MERIL) infrastructure 3502 list since August 2013.
