Carlos Armindo Arango Florentino
Carlos A. A. Florentino was born in Lisbon, and obtained a "Licenciatura" degree in Physics and Technological Engineering (IST - Instituto Superior Técnico, 1992, Lisbon). Fascinated by the Mathematics (especially Geometry) in Theoretical Physics, he pursued his studies in the USA, obtaining a MSc in Mathematics at Stanford University (1994) and a PhD in Mathematics, SUNY Stony Brook (1997) under the supervision of Prof. Leon Takhtajan (Mathematical-Physics group at Steklov Institute, St. Petersburg, Russia). His research falls mainly within 4 areas: geometry and topology of character varieties, holomorphic bundles on Kähler manifolds, geometric quantization of moduli spaces, and invariant theory. He has collaborated with mathematicians from USA, India, Iran, Germany, Spain and Portugal. He was Professor and Researcher at IST between 1998 and 2015, where he obtained the Agregação in Mathematics (2008), and Adviser of the Education Commission of national parliament in 2019. At present, he is Full Professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, and Researcher in CEMS.UL at the same University.
He is Editor of the "Boletim" of the Portuguese Mathematical Society, and of International Journal Open Mathematics, Walter de Gruyter.
