Project Management in Software Engineering
These two complementary courses can be taken together or individually. They cover how projects operate within companies, core project management concepts (including teams, processes, methods, complexity analysis, risk management, project charter, and project organisation), and the system/software engineering process (general aspects, computer-based system development, the software engineering process, and managing that process). They also address selected topics such as the specification process, effort estimation and time management, and spin-off/business plans.
As part of the exercise course, students work in groups on a fictitious software project. Throughout the project lifecycle, they apply and reflect on different project management concepts, software engineering practices, and support tools.
OUTCOMES: By the end, you will be able to explain and apply the integration of projects into a company organisation; key tasks and activities of both the project management process and the software engineering process; selected aspects of specification and effort estimation; and the structured description of project ideas and a user requirements document.
Primarily designed for Bachelor’s students, the course is also suitable for Master’s students from other disciplines seeking an introduction to software engineering project management
