Summer School: Mountains in a changing world
This program aims to understand why mountains are defined as complex systems and why they are vulnerable to change, to identify the threats they face, to describe the potential effects of these changes, to explore key remediation and mitigation strategies, and to provide crucial trajectories for mountains confronting environmental transformations. Mountains in a Changing World mixes multidisciplinary lectures (from mountain building/environment, water management, snow, glaciers, and avalanches to botany) with on-campus activities and field trips to directly observe the numerous effects of climate change on the Alpine environment- Including the botanical garden of Lautaret. In 2026, a second week is proposed, focusing on the societal and economic challenges posed by the rapid changes currently taking place in the mountain environment.
