Bioengineering human tissue: Design, fabrication, analysis (BIP)
This Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) focuses on the design, fabrication, and analysis of bioengineered human tissue, offering Master’s students a unique opportunity to explore this rapidly evolving field.
Students will be introduced to human tissue engineering through a combination of theoretical insight and hands-on training using a variety of state-of-the-art methods.
What you will learn
Bioengineered three-dimensional (3D) human tissues are powerful tools used in disease modelling, drug development, and toxicology assessment, and they also hold strong potential for the repair and regeneration of human tissues. In this course, you will gain a broad understanding of key concepts in human tissue engineering, including:
- Quantitative design principles
- Transport phenomena in 3D constructs
- Mechanical conditioning
- Strategies for vascularization
- Challenges related to clinical translation
You will also learn how to critically evaluate scientific literature and design appropriate experimental approaches.
Hands-on experience
The in-person component of this BIP introduces essential techniques for generating, culturing, and analysing human 3D tissue models, giving you direct experience with the methods used in cutting-edge research.
Outcomes
By the end of the course, you will understand how artificial 3D human tissues are designed, fabricated, and analysed, and you will have developed the foundational skills needed to start engineering them yourself.
